Technology Resources

St. Malachy Parish School provides students the latest in technology and media resources.  We have an outstanding computer lab and laptops available for student use.

Kindergarten and Grade 1

Students in Kindergarten and grade 1 work in KidPix, an award-winning drawing and painting program designed for their age group.  Pictures are created by clicking and dragging the mouse.  Projects have included ABC books, graphing, keying in letters, and free-hand drawing.  Early computer application concepts such as opening a file are mastered.  Projects are created and printed so that students see their accomplishments immediately.

Grade 2 through Grade 5

Students have weekly lessons on computer applications.  Students are introduced and expand their knowledge of Windows-based programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Paint.  Projects have included story creation, pie/bar charting, brochures, and exciting slide show presentations with unique graphics.

Keyboarding classes are offered to students in grades 5 and 6.  St. Malachy uses Sunburst’s Type-To-Learn 3 and 4, both programs are available to students to use during “free” computer time.  The internet is used for research and online educational programs and games.

Middle School

Middle School teachers schedule computer lab time to work on class projects.  Projects have included writing assignments, brochures and research.  Computer class is offered as an elective to students all four quarters.  During the third quarter, middle school students have completed projects for the Indiana Library Federation’s Media Fair Contest.  St. Malachy students have received several first and second place ribbons for their work.
